Your first session starts before the water.
A few simple things to ask before you meet the ocean for the first time.

A first surf session can come with plenty of questions. Start by telling the school what you are comfortable with in the water, whether you have surfed before, and what you hope to learn. That conversation helps the team explain which session fits you.
Make a little room in your day
Ask the school to confirm the meeting point, start time and what is included. Bring the items the school recommends, and leave time to arrive without rushing. Your booking confirmation should be the starting point for those practical details.
Let your questions come with you
You do not need to arrive knowing everything. Ask how the session will run, how equipment is chosen and what happens if conditions change. Take your lead from the school’s guidance on the day.
This is sample editorial content for the Escondido Surf preview. The school will review and personalize its advice before publication.
